Spanish courses in Alicante – Old Town

Sun-drenched Alicante, on Spain’s eastern coast, is a wonderful setting for your Spanish course. A city with a long history that even pre-dates the Romans, as well as some of the loveliest urban beaches in Europe, Alicante is also well known for its fantastic festivals, not least the Hogueras de San Juan. This festival takes place in June, when huge, satirical statues are set on fire.

Take an evening stroll, or paseo, along the Explanada de España, famous for its uniquely patterned tiles and rows of palm trees. Look out across the spectacular sands of El Postiguet beach towards the Mediterranean, or up towards Mt. Benacantil, atop of which is perched the impressive Castle of Santa Barbara.

Our Alicante (Old Town) school is centrally located, just 5 minutes’ walk from Postiguet beach, the train station and the market. The school is housed in a modern building, with 10 well-lit air-conditioned classrooms, a library, video room and common area.

Our Spanish courses in Alicante Old Town

If you speak some Spanish already, you will take a level test on arrival at the school, which will ensure that you are placed in the most suitable group for you, with students of a similar level. There are also regular start dates for complete beginners, who will then be placed automatically in a group with other beginners.

The ‘Intensive’ course of 20 group lessons per week will work on improving your overall level of Spanish. If you do wish to focus on any particular aspect of the language, then you may like to consider adding some private lessons to your course.

If you need to obtain proof of your level of Spanish, then you may like to consider taking a DELE exam. The diploma is issued by the Instituto Cervantes and is, therefore, recognised all over the world. Our Spanish school in Alicante offers a special ‘DELE Exam Preparation’ course which will not only help you to improve your overall level but will also focus on the skills required to pass the exam. This course is usually offered for a period of 6 weeks and does have specific start dates (please contact us for details).

All of the courses mentioned above are suitable for adult students aged 17 years and over, and there is certainly no maximum age limit. However, if you are aged 50 years and over, currently have at least an ‘elementary’ level of Spanish and prefer to study exclusively with students of a similar age to yourself, then you may like to consider our ‘Club 50+’ course. This course combines 20 group Spanish lessons per week with a special activities programme.

Accommodation in Alicante

We offer two accommodation options in Alicante: host family and shared apartments.

Host family accommodation is offered on a half or full board basis and offers a very unique and special experience. You will be welcomed into the home of native Spanish speakers, who will encourage you to practice speaking Spanish with them on an everyday basis. They will also be very pleased to speak with you about their city and culture.

Shared apartment accommodation does offer slightly more independence, as it is offered on a self-catering basis. You will have your own bedroom and will share the kitchen, bathroom and general living area with your flatmates. Generally, shared apartment accommodation tends to be most popular amongst students in their twenties, as this type of accommodation is comfortable but fairly basic.

Cultural activities in Alicante

Our school in Alicante offers regular activities, which will not only help you to meet fellow students, but will also give you more experience of using Spanish outside of the classroom. The activities programme varies on a weekly basis and our colleagues will let you know what exactly will be offered during your stay on arrival at the school. All the activities are completely optional and may incur a small additional charge payable directly to the school to cover costs. Examples of typical activities offered include Spanish culture classes, full-day excursions to places like Ibiza and Altea, guided tours of museums and historical monuments, and evenings out.

How to get there

Most students fly directly into Alicante International Airport. From here, you can either take public transport to your accommodation, or we can arrange an airport transfer for you (please note that this will incur an additional charge).
