There really is no better place to learn Greek than in the ancient city of Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities! The birthplace of democracy, Athens has played a hugely important role, not only in the history of Greece, but also on a global scale. The city is a centre for archaeological research and has many historic monuments, where the most iconic, the Acropolis, dominates the city skyline.
Athens is a city that is proud of its past, but also looks towards the future. Cutting edge bars, restaurants and designer boutiques are just as prevalent here, and that uniquely Mediterranean mix of a vibrant nightlife and easygoing atmosphere is just as evident here as in other cities throughout the region.
You will find our Greek language school in Athens right next to the National Archaeological Museum. There are 9 air-conditioned classrooms, a multi-media centre, library, Internet room and cafeteria.
Choose between 20 group and 20 private lessons per week at our school in Athens. Courses are usually arranged for durations of 2-4 weeks (private lessons are usually a little more flexible than this).
If you choose the ‘Intensive’ course of 20 group lessons per week, you will take a level test on arrival at the school. This will allow you to be placed in a suitable group with students of a similar level to yourself. Please note that, if you are the only student of your level, the school does reserve the right to offer you a reduced number of private lessons.
Stay with a carefully selected host family, in a shared apartment or in a hotel.
Generally, we recommend host family accommodation as this will allow you to really be totally immersed in the Greek language. The host families are very carefully selected by our colleagues at the school to make sure that they offer accommodation that is suitable and welcoming for students. This type of accommodation is offered on a bed and breakfast basis.
If you prefer to prepare your own meals, shared apartment accommodation provides access to a fully-equipped kitchen. Alternatively, we can also arrange hotel accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis.
Our school in Athens organises optional activities to give you further opportunities to practice speaking Greek and to help you learn more about the city and culture. Examples of typical activities offered include Greek film screenings, dance lessons, visits to museums, lectures on culture/history, guided walks and meals out. All activities are optional and, therefore, may incur a small additional charge to cover costs. Most activities will require a minimum number of participants.
Fly into Athens International Airport. From here, you can take public transport (metro/train) or a taxi to your accommodation. Airport transfers can be arranged but are not included in the course price and will, therefore, incur an additional charge.
