Learn Spanish in Barcelona!

Learning Spanish in Barcelona, students enjoy the twin advantages of studying in a coastal city with excellent beaches and a marvellous climate, whilst at the same time being able to explore all that a city like Barcelona has to offer. This city, rich in cultural heritage, is full of spectacular architecture (including Gaudi’s magnificent, unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia) and has inspired a wealth of authors, poets and artists. A dynamic city, Barcelona is just as lively and colourful at night as it is during the day and offers some of the best nightlife in Europe.

Situated in the “Eixample” district in the heart of Barcelona, the school is in the perfect location to discover the city. You will be in walking distance of Las Ramblas, as well as being near to many metro and bus stops to explore further afield. The school is in a four-storey building with 50 classrooms, many terraces, and even a solarium terrace, so you can appreciate the spectacular views of Barcelona whilst soaking up the sun. This modern language school also offers a fully equipped computer lab, Wi-Fi access, spacious library, air conditioning, and a wheelchair accessible elevator/lift.

Our Spanish language courses in Barcelona

We offer a good range of Spanish courses in Barcelona, so you should easily find a course to suit your requirements. The ‘Intensive’ course of 20 group lessons per week tends to be the most popular, as it means that you will have 4 lessons per day from Monday to Friday. Most students find this to be the best balance between Spanish tuition and free time to enjoy the city (and put those new Spanish skills into practical use!). Groups are relatively small on the ‘Intensive’ course, as there is a maximum of 10 students per class, with an average of just 5 throughout the year.

If you’d like to know more about Spanish culture it is also possible to combine the ‘Intensive’ course with 5 extra cultural classes a week, covering topics such as History, Art, Civilisation, Literature, and Cinema. This is known as our Super Intensive Spanish course.

If you want to improve your overall level of Spanish, but would also like to spend some time concentrating on something in particular, then the ‘Super Intensive + Private Lessons’ course would be an excellent option for you, as your 20 group lessons will be topped up by 5 private lessons and 5 cultural workshops/conversation classes.

Of course, our school in Barcelona also offers private lessons (20 lessons/week) if you do require individualised attention.

If you require Spanish for your work, then our ‘Business Spanish’ (10 lessons/week) course will tutor you in the language skills required for conducting business in Spanish.

Our school in Barcelona can also prepare you for the DELE Exam (20 lessons/week), which is a recognised qualification that proves your proficiency in the language.

Accommodation in Barcelona

If you require accommodation during your course, we can arrange this for you. Our school in Barcelona offers a choice of host family, shared or private apartment and student residence accommodation.

If you really want to improve your Spanish as quickly as possible and gain greater confidence in speaking, then accommodation with a host family would be ideal for you. All hosts are native Spanish speakers and the school select them very carefully to make sure not only that the accommodation is of a suitable standard for students, but also that the families will welcome students as part of the family and encourage them to practice speaking Spanish with them. Staying in a host family means gaining an authentic Spanish experience, discovering local customs as well as having the possibility of eating the traditional cuisine. You can choose between a single or double room and the accommodation can be arranged on a half board (breakfast & dinner), full board (all meals) or no meals basis. The host families will generally be within 20-30 minutes of the school (either by foot or by public transport).

Shared apartment accommodation is a relatively inexpensive option that is generally located relatively close to the school (either in walking distance or a short trip on public transport). The school offers apartments of different sizes and characteristics, and you can choose between a single, double or triple room. You would share the kitchen, bathroom and general living area with other international students learning Spanish (although a private bathroom may be available). These apartments are generally comfortable and completely furnished and equipped, but they are fairly basic, meaning that this type of accommodation does tend to be most popular amongst students in their 20s. If you’re looking for more privacy, the school also offers private apartments within walking distance of the school. You can choose between a studio (1 bedroom) or an apartment (2-3 bedrooms).

Student residence accommodation is a nice, social option that also tends to be most popular amongst students in their 20s (as, once again, it does tend to be comfortable but basic). You’ll get to meet other international students and sometimes Spanish students as well. There is the option of a single or double room and you can choose between bed and breakfast, half board (breakfast & dinner) or full board (breakfast, lunch & dinner). Sometimes a private bathroom may be available.

Cultural activities

There is obviously plenty to see and do in Barcelona and our colleagues at the school understand that you are keen to get out and about to experience the city. Your free time is your own, but you will be invited to take part in the school’s optional activities programme. The activities offered changes on a weekly basis, but some examples to whet your appetite include: Barcelona tours, visits to the Park Güell, Sagrada Familia, Picasso museum, tour of Camp Nou football stadium and more! Every weekend our Spanish school also gives you the options of one to three day excursions to some of Spain’s best cities and sights. This might include the Costa Brava, Tarragona, Gerona, a winery tour, Montserrat, Sitges, and the Dalí Museum – Figueras & Cadaqués.

Please note that activities may incur an additional charge to cover costs and may require a minimum number of participants to proceed.

How to get there

Fly into Barcelona. There is an airport bus which is very inexpensive and very easy to use. Alternatively, we can arrange a transfer from the airport, train or bus station (Barcelona, Gerona, Reus, Tarragona) for an additional charge if required.
