Bournemouth is located 150km southwest of London and is one of the most popular coastal destinations in the UK for learning English! With a mild climate, a coastline of water sport possibilities, 10km of sandy beaches and a lively city centre, filled with all kinds of shops, restaurants, bars, cafés and nightlife venues, Bournemouth is an exceptionally attractive and exciting city in which to spend a study holiday!
The city centre is safe and our students are spoilt for choice when it comes to social and free time activities, both in the city or in the surrounding beautiful countryside. There are over 8 square kilometres of breathtaking gardens and picturesque parks in Bournemouth, in addition to concert halls, museums, fantastic art galleries and endless opportunities to practise all kinds of sports and water sports. Bournemouth has excellent transport connections to many other parts of England, so other cities, such as London, Oxford and Bath, can be visited on day trips, or you can discover the beautiful New Forest National Park.
Our Bournemouth school is situated in a traditional English house, on the main bus route in the city and just 15 minutes’ walk from the town centre. There are 9 well-equipped, modern classrooms, each with interactive whiteboards, or widescreen TVs, which can connect to laptops or to the school’s set of 20ipads. There is wireless internet connection throughout the building, a study room, a reception area, a computer room with 15 PCs for students to use whenever they wish and a cafeteria. In order for students to completely relax, the school also provides a pool table, vending machines, a large plasma screen for film evenings and a karaoke machine! There is a wonderful patio which has space for up to 80 people and makes a perfect spot for meeting, socialising and holding barbecue parties in the summer.
There is a minimum required course duration of 2 weeks at our school in Bournemouth and a minimum English language level requirement, meaning that all students need to have at least an elementary level, in order to be able to join our programmes. You can start your course on any Monday of the year and study for as long as you wish.
Whether you are looking to improve your English for personal reasons, for your further studies, or for business and career purposes, you will find that our courses cover all aspects of the language, enabling you to gain confidence and to help you to achieve the English level you are hoping for, in the time that you have available. Carefully structured, total immersion classes, led by fully qualified native tutors are designed to help you to use your English skills outside the classroom, in all kinds of situations.
You can choose to take an Intensive or a Super-Intensive course, consisting of 20, 30 or even 40 classes per week. These are by far the most popular courses, with the options of 30 or 40 classes each week reserved for the more ambitious students, or for those with limited time to spend with us in Bournemouth.
The school also offers a Business English course, of 20 classes per week, during the summer months, where there is a maximum class size of just 8 students per group (rather than a maximum of 15 for the Intensive programmes).
If you are looking to pass the IELTS or one of the internationally recognised Cambridge Examinations, then you can choose to attend the Exam Preparation Course at our school, which pays specific attention to all of the skills and strategies needed to pass the exams. Please contact us regarding the timetable and exact start dates for these courses as they are available at specific times of the year.
Our school ensures high quality accommodation with British host families, on a half-board or a full-board basis (with a packed lunch provision each day), or in the University residence during the summer months, which is for 18 year old students and above only.
The advantages of staying with a host family include the obvious chance that you have to practise your English skills as often as you wish with the local people! Our students who choose this total immersion programme find that they make quick progress and often friends for life in the UK, as they quickly get to know the British culture and the warm and welcoming native people!
The residence offers you the chance to live with other international students, in apartments of 5 or 6 students in total. Each of the bedrooms have private bathrooms and this is a self-catering option, so you will share a kitchen and the living spaces with the other students in the flat.
The cultural activities programme includes a huge variety of possibilities to get to know the city and surrounding area with your new friends, whilst enjoying yourself and practising your English! Throughout the year there are normally 3 activities organised each week, with more during the high season summer months. There are film evenings, conversation clubs, pub nights and karaoke games. The school organises international dinners and summer barbecues, in addition to much bigger events at Easter, Christmas and also on Valentine’s Day and on Bonfire night.
Excursions will offer you the chance to explore nearby cities such as Bath, Oxford and London, in addition to places of interest and historic sites in the surrounding countryside. Some of the activities and all of the excursions are available at an extra cost, payable at the school when you sign up for the events.
Our school will happily arrange for you to be collected from the airport, whether you arrive into Bournemouth, Stansted, Heathrow or Gatwick airport, however, the transfers are not included in the course fees. Please contact us for further details and prices.
