Guatemala is a beautiful country, with a rich culture heritage and friendly locals. Guatemala is also far cheaper to live in than most neighbouring countries, making it a very attractive location in which to learn Spanish. Over 5,000 foreign students per year choose to study Spanish in Guatemala. Antigua is where most foreign students choose to learn Spanish in Guatemala. This is a beautiful small city, full of magnificent Spanish colonial architecture, much of it dating back over 500 years. The people of Antigua are famous for their warmth and hospitality, always a bonus to anyone learning a foreign language. Learning Spanish is easier here, because people are happy to stop and talk to you, the way of life is much more informal and welcoming.

Our school in Guatemala is located in the historic centre of Antigua, just a short walk from the main square. The school is located in a colonial building with a charming internal patio and garden, around which the classrooms are arranged. All lessons are on a one-to-one basis, with fully qualified native tutors. The atmosphere in the school is exceptionally supportive and friendly, so that students on Spanish courses immediately feel at home and welcome. In order to help students learn Spanish as quickly as possible, as well as thoroughly enjoy their time in Guatemala, our school in Antigua organizes an extensive cultural program of excursions and activities, details of which are given below.

The Spanish lessons are all one-to-one, which means that each student gets lots of personal attention, helping them to learn the language much more quickly and effectively.:

Standard Spanish Course.

This course consists of 20 Spanish lessons/week, on a one-to-one basis, each class with a fully qualified and experienced native tutor.

Intensive Spanish Course.

This course consists of 25 Spanish lessons/week, on a one-to-one basis, each class with a fully qualified and experienced native tutor. This course is ideal for students who want to learn Spanish particularly quickly.

Super-Intensive Spanish Course.

This course consists of 30 Spanish lessons/week, on a one-to-one basis, each class with a fully qualified and experienced native tutor. This course is ideal for students who want to learn as much Spanish as possible during their time in Guatemala.

Volunteer Work.

For students who study at our school for a minimum 4-week course, our school in Antigua will help arrange volunteer work (unpaid) in local hospitals, orphanages or community projects, for a few hours each day, after class. This is a great way to meet local Guatemalans, as well as practice the Spanish that you learn on the course.

Host family accommodation
Each Guatemalan host family is carefully chosen by the Director of the school, for their warmth and hospitality. Students receive private room accommodation, with meals 6 days per week and are welcomed into family life. Living with a host family helps you practice the Spanish that you study on the course. All host families are within easy walking distance of our school in Antigua.

Private Student Residences
Our school in Guatemala is the only school in Antigua which offers accommodation in private student residences. There are 8 to 14 international students in each residence, all the students being from our school in Antigua. You can either have meals provided for you in the residence, or else can cook your own meals, or eat out. Every student in the residence has a private room, shared bathroom and access to a shared kitchen. The residences are all located in the centre of Antigua, within easy walking distance of the school. An ‘Ama de Casa’ looks after each residence, keeping it clean, as well as providing great food and lots of personal attention. These residences provide independent accommodation with other international students learning Spanish in the same school and are very popular.

Cultural Activity Program

Our Spanish school in Antigua organizes an extensive cultural program, including a wide range of free activities. The free activities include Salsa and Merengue dance classes, Latin American films in the school, guided walking tours of Antigua, participation in local cultural and religious events and regular parties at the school. At little extra cost to students our school also organizes visits to coffee and nut plantations, volcano trips, a mountain bike tour, traditional clothing and weaving demonstrations, picnics in beautiful locations, horse-riding excursions and much more! This cultural program helps you practice the Spanish that you learn at our school, as well as ensuring that you quickly meet and make friends with other students at our school in Antigua and thoroughly enjoy your time in Guatemala.

How to get to our school in Antigua, Guatemala

Fly to Guatemala City Aurora Airport. Our school can arrange for you to be met at the airport and taken directly to your accommodation in Antigua.

Spanish in Guatemala is spoken in much the same way as Spanish in most neighbouring countries. However, due to the cost of living, it is cheaper to attend a course at a Spanish school in Guatemala. We highly recommend learning spanish in Guatemala.
