Lyon enjoys a magnificent location at the meeting point of the Rhône and Saône rivers, close to the French Alps. It is a city of sophistication, history and culture that offers something for everyone!
Lyon is particularly renowned for its gourmet food. Why not try the local specialities of ‘andouilettes’ (pork sausages) or ‘quenelles de brochet’ (fish dumplings)? After lunch, take a walk through the ‘traboules’, tunnels used by the French resistance during World War Two.
In the summer months, Lyon even has a beach! Sand is deposited on the banks of the Rhône, creating the perfect place for relaxing in the sun. If you take a French course in Lyon during December, you can witness the Festival of Lights. Locals place candles in their windows and enjoy light shows and parties, all in homage to the Virgin Mary, whom locals believe saved the city from a plague during the Middle Ages. Lyon offers a great variety of things to see and do, and learning French is just the start!
A charming Art Deco building, just outside Lyon’s historic heart, is home to our school. Once your French lessons have finished for the day, take a walk to nearby Parc de la Tête d’Or, or while away the afternoon in one of the many cafés in the neighbourhood. Our school has nine bright, modern classrooms, a library, computer suite and a free wireless Internet connection.
No matter which of our French courses you choose, you will be taught by highly-qualified, native French teachers, with years of experience in teaching French as a foreign language. Class sizes are kept to a maximum of only 12 students, with an average of eight to 10 students, so you will benefit from lots of individual time with our expert teachers.
To make even more rapid progress with your language skills, choose one-on-one tuition, either in combination with group lessons, or as a program of Private Lessons. Every course is available at a variety of levels, from beginner to advanced.
Want to really get to know the French language, culture and people? Then stay with a host family! Our school carefully selects local families, who’ll welcome you into their home, talk to you in French and provide you with breakfast, or with two meals per day. Some families live just five minutes away from the school, and no families are further than 30 minutes away.
Alternatively, you can live in a shared apartment whilst you learn French in Lyon. It’s a great way to meet new people in the city! Studio apartments are also available, offering a little extra comfort and privacy, a maximum of 15 minutes away from the school by public transport. All studio apartments have their own kitchens and bathrooms, as well as TVs and access to the Internet.
To complement your French course in Lyon, our school organises a program of activities for your free time. The program changes from month to month, but typical activities include guided tours of Lyon, cookery workshops, museum trips and tasting local specialities! Excursions are arranged for the weekend, allowing you to explore this beautiful region of France.
The city is served by Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, which receives flights from all over the world. For a supplementary fee, our school will collect you from the airport and take you to your accommodation.
