Located at the foot of the Andes Mountains, and lying at the heart of an important wine producing area, Mendoza is a very beautiful and much visited historic city, dating back to the 16th century. This is one of the largest wine-producing areas in South America and, therefore, one of the highlights of a trip to Mendoza is a tour around a vineyard, with a tasting session, of course!
This is a city that is perfect for those who are interested in extreme sports. During winter, the easy access to the Andes means that Mendoza is also the perfect location for combining your Spanish course with skiing! Outside of this period, the area is also known as a haven for other extreme sports, such as climbing, rafting and kayaking.
Our Spanish school in Mendoza lies within easy reach of the city centre, close to the tranquil setting of Parque Civico. The school has five classrooms, access to the Internet, a library, common room, dining room and terrace area.
Most students are mainly interested in improving their overall level of Spanish and having plenty of opportunity to practice the language in everyday, practical situations. For these students, the ‘Intensive’ course of 20 group lessons per week tends to offer the best of both worlds. Four lessons per day from Monday to Friday means that there is plenty of formal tuition, whilst still having half of the day free to take part in activities or explore the local area, all the time using Spanish to converse with the locals.
Of course, if you do wish to improve your overall level, but have a short amount of time in which to make the maximum progress, you may prefer the ‘Super-Intensive’ course of 30 lessons per week.
If there is something on which you wish to focus in particular, then the ‘Intensive + Private Lessons’ course of 20 group and 5 private lessons per week is a great choice. The private lessons really are very flexible, so you can generally cover whatever you like in them!
Combine your Spanish course with skiing at our school in Mendoza. On the ‘Spanish + Ski’ course, you will have 16 group and 2 private lessons per week, and transfers and ski passes are included in the course price.
Staying with a carefully selected host family really does complete the experience, making it unforgettable! Our colleagues know the host families that they work with extremely well and visit them regularly to make sure that the accommodation offered continues to be suitable for students. Hosts welcome students into their home and encourage them to speak Spanish with them as often as possible, which really is invaluable if you are hoping to make as much progress as possible during your time in Mendoza.
You can choose to stay on a bed and breakfast or half board basis. Our recommendation would be the half board option, as the evening meal does tend to be the time when hosts are able to sit and speak with students.
Part of the appeal of learning Spanish in Mendoza is not only the improvement you will make by immersing yourself in the language, but also the opportunities you will have to explore the local area and the culture, thanks to the school’s cultural activities programme. Examples of typical activities offered include wine tasting, trips to the Andes for climbing, and visits to local places both within the city and the surrounding area. The activities programme changes on a weekly basis and our colleagues will let you know what will be offered once you arrive at the school. Please note that there may be a small additional charge payable directly to the school to cover costs. All activities are completely optional, so you will only take part in the activities that you choose!
Fly into Mendoza Airport which is just 6km from the city centre. From here, it is very easy and inexpensive to take public transport. However, if you prefer, an airport transfer can be arranged (please note that this is not included in the course price and will, therefore, incur an additional charge).
