Oxford is, of course, most famous for its prestigious University and for having been a home to scholars and royalty for over 800 years. However, today Oxford offers plenty of variety for both residents and visitors, as the magnificent, cosmopolitan city is bustling with businesses and a growing hi-tech community, as well as having a unique mix of ancient historic buildings, modern architecture, stylish shops, fantastic pubs and restaurants and a lively cultural scene.
Learn English in Oxford and you will get to know a thoroughly charming city, filled with people from all over the world. You can also visit well-known attractions in the surrounding area, such as The Cotswolds, Stonehenge, Blenheim Palace and Windsor Castle. Take a trip further afield to the beautiful nearby cities of Bath and Canterbury as well as London, located just 90km from Oxford.
Our English language school could not be better located in the very centre of Oxford, close to all of the city’s amenities and next to plenty of superb cafés, pubs and restaurants. There are two school buildings with a total of 12 spacious and modern classrooms. There is also a well-equipped resource centre, a student lounge and an IT suite, with free WiFi internet access. All of the school course materials are included in the cost of the Intensive English course and the school also offers downloadable lessons for students with smart phones!
You will need to decide on the number of weeks that you have available to study at our school in Oxford and the amount of hours of class you would like each week. You do not need to take any entry test in advance of the start of your course as you will have a level placement test on your arrival, to ensure that you are placed in a class that is exactly suited to your English language level. You can choose to take a general group Intensive or Super-Intensive course, consisting of either 20 or 28 lessons per week. You can choose to study for as long as you wish, with the Super-Intensive option being ideal for students who have limited time or who wish to make progress as quickly as possible. The general classes cover essential reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and provide you will many tools for developing your language knowledge and your confidence to speak English in the world outside of the classroom. There is a maximum of 15 students per class and an average of 10-12.
If you already have an intermediate level of English (B1) and you would like to improve your Business English communication skills then you can choose the Business English course, consisting of 20 general English lessons per week plus 8 lessons focussed on business English, for use in today’s growing global economy. You will practise skills in giving presentations, holding meetings and communicating with clients or colleagues in a business context. You will be able to improve your writing skills, make use of cross-cultural business ethics and increase your business related vocabulary! The course is available for 2 to 12 weeks and each class lasts 50 minutes in duration.
Our school also offers special Exam Preparation Courses for the Cambridge Exams or for the IELTS exam. The school’s highly qualified native teachers are trained to ensure that you understand all of the necessary requirements for the examinations, that you are well prepared with the correct skills and strategies and that you achieve the best possible grade.
During your stay in Oxford you can choose to live with an English host family, or in the student residence building.
Staying with a host family means you have the unique opportunity to really get to know the local people and the English way of life. You can choose a single or a shared bedroom and the option of bed & breakfast only, if you are aged 18 years or above. Half-board accommodation (breakfast and the evening meal) is possible for all students. You will have the comforts of a home-away-from-home and at the same time the benefit of being able to practise your English at any time! The host families are carefully selected by the school’s Accommodation Officer for the facilities and comfort on offer. All hosts have a close relationship with our school and live a maximum of 45 minutes away by public transport.
The self-catering student residence and summer residence is the best choice for students who prefer a little more independence and like to share the living areas with other international students. The residence is just a 5 minute walk from the school and offers single or shared bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.
The language lessons are complimented by a varied and interesting weekly programme of activities and excursions organised by the school. The timetable changes every week and will give you the opportunity to explore Oxford and the surrounding area, whilst relaxing, having fun and getting to know your fellow students.
You can expect such things as: guided city tours, walks along the river, museum, theatre and cinema trips, a variety of sports, quiz nights, dance and fitness classes, parties and traditional English pub nights! All of the activities are optional and the actual activities will depend on the city’s programme of events and on the season.
Some of the activities and the excursions are available at a small cost, further details of which will be available on your arrival at the school. There are regular excursions to London and Cambridge, as well as historic visits to places such as Windsor Castle and Stonehenge. You can visit the birthplace of William Shakespeare or the stunning natural landscape of the Cotswolds. With so much to see and do in this beautiful part of England, you will not want your studies to come to an end!
