St Julian’s Bay is the perfect base for your visit to Malta! Just 20 minutes’ drive from the capital, Valletta, and nestled between Sliema and Paceville, St Julian’s was originally a quiet fishing village. The town retains its original, charming atmosphere, whilst also offering many excellent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.
Our English school in St Julian’s is located close to the famous Paceville area, which is well known for its many bars and nightclubs. You will also be close to St George’s beach and Spinola Bay, which has many lovely seafront restaurants. The town of Sliema is also just a pleasant 30 minutes’ walk away.
Housed in a modern, bright and spacious building close to the entertainment area, Paceville, our school in St Julian’s Bay offers excellent facilities for students learning English. As well as 60 air-conditioned classrooms, the school also offers free wireless Internet access, a self-access area and a study room. There is also a lovely café, which offers a range of food and drink, and even has a lovely terrace where students often gather in between lessons.
After your lessons, just a short walk will take you into Paceville, which is home to many fantastic cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as many shops. You will also be within easy walking distance of the beach, if you prefer to relax after lessons.
Our courses will guarantee that you are totally immersed in the English language from Day One, which means that you will progress quickly and will become more confident using English in everyday situations.
Your teachers will all be native English speakers and will, of course, be fully qualified to teach English as a foreign language. You will take a level test before you start your course, which will ensure that you are placed in the correct group for you, with students of a similar level. The lessons will then be tailored to meet the requirements and level of your group. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes.
If you would like to use your time in St Julian’s Bay to improve your overall level of English, then one of our normal group courses, such as the ‘Intensive’ course of 20 group lessons per week or the ‘Super-Intensive’ course of 30 lessons per week, would be sufficient for you. You can even choose to add some sailing or diving lessons to your English course!
If you would like to take a group course and make the most progress possible during your time at the school, then the ‘Super-Intensive Mini-Group’ course may be perfect for you, as it will allow you slightly more individual attention from the teacher. The maximum class size for this course is 6, which is half that of the maximum class size for the ‘normal’ group courses.
Perhaps you have a specific reason for learning English, such as for business or academic reasons. If this is the case, then you may like to consider a ‘Business English’ or ‘Exam Preparation’ course. Please note that you will already need to have at least an upper-elementary level of the language in order to take these courses. The ‘Exam Preparation’ course is suitable for students hoping to take the Cambridge, IELTS or TOEFL exams. These courses consist of 30 lessons per week.
If you have 24-36 weeks available to take an English course and really want to reach a level of fluency, then an ‘Academic Year’ course is certainly worth considering. There is some flexibility in the programme which means that you will be given options to focus on areas of the language that are of most interest or are most useful to you.
The minimum age requirement at this school is usually 18 years. However, if you are travelling with children aged 8-18 years, you may like to consider the ‘Family Course’. This course allows all members of the family to learn English during their time in St Julian’s Bay. Parents will take lessons with other adults, whilst children will study exclusively with other young students.
There is no maximum age limit at our school in St Julian’s Bay and adult students of all ages are welcome to take any of our courses. If you are aged 50 years and over and would prefer to learn English with other students of a similar age, then you may like to consider taking one of our ‘Club 50+’ courses. A combination of general English lessons and fun activities does mean that this is a great way to enjoy a holiday in Malta, whilst at the same time improving your English!
We are also able to arrange accommodation if you do require this. Generally, we recommend host family accommodation to most students, as this is, of course, the most beneficial option from a linguistic point of view. It is also a wonderful experience in itself, as you really will be welcomed into the home of locals who will be very pleased to speak to you about their culture.
If you prefer to stay more independently, then our school also offers student residence, studio apartment and hotel accommodation, all within a maximum of 30 minutes’ walk from the school. If you do prefer to prepare your own meals, then we recommend studio apartment accommodation, as both residence and hotel accommodation is offered on a bed and breakfast basis with no access to kitchen facilities.
At our school in St Julian’s, learning continues outside of the classroom. The school offers an exciting activities programme, which will be conducted in English. This means that not only will you be able to have fun and meet other international students, you will also have more opportunity to practice speaking English. On arrival, our colleagues will take you on a guided walk around the local area, pointing out the places of interest, such as the bus stops, taxi ranks, pharmacies and restaurants that offer good value. The school also host a welcome evening for new students, to make sure that you are able to meet your fellow students.
In addition, the school regularly arrange excursions to places such as Valletta and Gozo, as well as other activities, such as horse-riding, go-karting, aerobics, sailing, tennis, squash and football. The exact activities programme does vary from week to week and so our colleagues will advise you on arrival what activities will be offered. Please note that all activities are optional and will normally incur additional charges, which are payable directly to the school on arrival.
If you book school accommodation, then a representative of the school will collect you from the airport on arrival, from where you will be taken directly to your accommodation.
