Founded in the 18th Century by Tsar Peter I, St Petersburg was capital of the Russian Empire for over 200 years, and today is the country’s political and cultural centre. The city has more historic architecture than Moscow, with many fine examples of Baroque and neoclassical buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The city is home to more than 200 museums and 50 theatres and all this makes St Petersburg the perfect location to immerse yourself in the Russian language and culture!
You will be taught by highly qualified native speakers, who are highly experienced in teaching Russian to foreign students! The facilities at the school are first-rate, including well-equipped classrooms, a computer room with free Internet access, a self-study area with a comprehensive library and wireless Internet throughout. There is also a recreation hall and a student common area, with complimentary tea and coffee. There is also a café where you can buy drinks and snacks.
Our school in St Petersburg offers such a wide range of Russian language courses that you are sure to find a course to meet your specific requirements! Courses offered include group course of 20 or 30 Russian language lessons per week, private courses and Academic or exam preparation courses. If you are unable to attend lessons during the day but are still eager to learn Russian, you may like to consider one of our evening courses.
For those who need to learn or improve their level of Russian for career reasons, our school offers Business Russian courses and Russian language courses for law students, as well as a Russian and Work Experience programme. If you are aged 50 years and over, would like to study exclusively with students of a similar age to yourself and would like to combine your Russian language lessons with cultural activities, then our Club 50+ course is perfect for you!
If you wish to learn more about Russian culture and literature, the school also offers some fantastic ‘special interest’ courses, including a ‘Russian language and folk culture’ course, a ‘Golden age of Russian literature’ course and a ‘Russian literature of the 20th Century’ course. Our school in St Petersburg also offers a Christmas course, which combines Russian language study with themed activities to give you a real taste of how the Russians celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
Whilst studying at our Russian language school in St Petersburg, you can choose to stay in host family accommodation on a bed and breakfast or half-board basis or self-catered guesthouse, private apartment or shared apartment accommodation. We are also able to arrange hotel accommodation. If you wish to fully immerse yourself in the Russian language and culture, then we would certainly recommend host family accommodation, as this type of accommodation will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to speak Russian with native speakers outside of the classroom!
Experiencing and understanding the culture is a key element of learning any language, and for this reason our school offers an extensive activities and excursions programme. The school regularly arranges visits to museums, city tours, parties, walks, theatre trips, Russian song lessons, Russian folk art lessons and Russian film screenings. Excursions are usually to local places of interest in and around St Petersburg, including the historic palaces at Pavlovsk, Peterhof and Tsarskoe selo, as well as the magnificent Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood which has itself become an internationally recognised symbol of St Petersburg.
