Torquay, located in Devon, on the southwest coast of England, is often compared to Montpellier and is fondly known as the English Riviera, due to it being a fashionable seaside resort, boasting picturesque alcoves, nine beautiful sandy beaches, cosy harbours and a warm micro-climate! Torquay is an excellent place in which to combine an English language course with a relaxing holiday. The high standards of water quality on the beaches of Torquay have won many awards and the beaches are also extremely popular due to their facilities, the natural beautiful backdrop of the seven hills of Torquay and the pretty palm-lined coast!
There are many places to see in and around Torquay and your free time can be spent discovering the nearby caves, the world-famous village of Cockington Court and Country Park, the Princess Theatre, the large coastal zoo and many other places of interest outside the town. Torquay offers all kinds of water sports for sports enthusiasts and there are also plenty of pubs, clubs and bars close to the harbour, from the traditional English pub, to the more elegant wine bars! There is something for everyone in this beautiful seaside resort!
The school boasts its own gardens, volleyball court and student residence and is located just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of the town. In addition to 20 classrooms, there is a self-access study area with computers, a student lounge with TV and DVD facilities, a bookshop and a cafeteria offering cold snacks and sandwiches. The staff in the reception are available to welcome you and provide all kinds of advice relating to your stay. There is also free wireless internet access throughout the school building. Our school offers a wide range of English courses for different needs and requirements and all ages are welcome!
The most popular courses are the general English programmes, which consist of either 15, 18 or 21 classes per week, in groups of maximum 10 students (or maximum 12 per group in the summer months of July and August). All general English group classes are 60 minutes in duration. The school’s highly trained teachers are dedicated to help you achieve fluency, accuracy and most of all confidence in speaking English, with a focus on helping you to communicate effectively. In addition to 15 hours per week concentrating on all aspects of the language, students also have the chance to take 3 or 6 additional afternoon study sessions on a wide choice of topics, whether you wish to improve your speaking or listening skills, work on your communication skills, learn more about British culture and way of life, study music, literature or perhaps you are preparing for an exam. The study sessions are catered to the individual needs of the students.
We also offer a Mini-Group courses of just 4 students per group maximum at our school in Torquay. You can take 15 mini-group classes per week, or combine this with an additional hour each day of individual tuition. Of course one-to-one classes are also available for any students who wish to take private lessons only, to improve their English in the shortest possible time. This course is ideal for any students needing particular vocabulary or who wish to cover particular topics.

There is a small and comfortable private student residence with 12 rooms, located exactly opposite the school. All of the bedrooms have their own private bathroom and this option is ideal for students who wish to meet other international students during their stay. There is a cafeteria serving a buffet-style breakfast each morning, as well as fresh lunches and snacks and there is a private garden and terrace area. There is WiFi connection throughout the residence building and a small kitchen for students who wish to prepare evening meals and light snacks.
For students who prefer to live with native British people and to take part in the daily life in Torquay, we highly recommend accommodation with a host family. The host families are located either within walking distance or just a short journey by bus from the school and executive host families are also available for students who would like to have a room with a private bathroom.
Our school has a varied and exciting activities programme which changes each week. Some of the activities are free of charge, where as many are available at a small extra cost. If you join the social programme and cultural activities at the school you will have the chance to visit many places of interest in and around Torquay, as well as dinner evenings, pub nights, sports tournaments, mystery sight-seeing tours and film evenings. There are caving and fishing opportunities close by and there are many excursions on offer to nearby tourist attractions and to other cities, such as to Dartmoor National Park, Exeter and Bath, amongst others.
