Berlin is an endlessly exciting city and an excellent choice for your German Young Students’ Course. The capital city of Germany, Berlin is not only incredibly historic city, but also offers such a vast array of cultural attractions that there is always something new to see! A fun city, Berliners seem to know how to strike the right balance between work and play and there is generally quite a youthful atmosphere that is incredibly appealing to young students.
Our summer course for young students in Berlin takes place in a leafy suburb of Berlin called Schmockwitz. The school take over the campus of a private university during the summer months, so all the facilities are on-site, including 25 classrooms, an on-site residence and various sports facilities. Local German students of a similar age will also be present at the camp and will take part in the activities and excursions, giving you the opportunity to practice speaking German with children of a similar age!
You will have 15 German lessons per week which will usually take place in the mornings (from Monday to Friday). There are four levels: beginners, elementary, intermediate and advanced. On arrival at the school you will take a level test to determine the group in which you are placed for your German lessons. The teaching materials and content of the lessons will all be age appropriate and your teachers, who are all native German-speakers, will be experienced enough to know how to make your lessons interesting and engaging. Your teachers will be educated to university level and will also be fully-qualified to teach German as a foreign language, so you can be sure the tuition you receive will be first-class.
On-site accommodation is provided on a full board basis for all students attending this programme. Your room will sleep 2-3 students, all of the same gender but, as far as availability allows, of different nationalities. Your room will have a private bathroom, so you will only share this facility with your roommates.
You will have activities every afternoon and evening, which will help you to make friends, will keep you entertained and should give you lots of extra practice in speaking German! The activities programme varies slightly from week to week, but some examples of typical activities arranged include swimming, football, juggling, theatre workshops, games, basketball, dance, volleyball, jazz dance lessons, barbecues, boat trips and discos. On Wednesdays you will usually have a half-day excursion within Berlin and on Saturdays you will usually have a full-day excursion to places such as Potsdam and Castle Sanssouci.
You can choose to add sailing or tennis sessions to your course. These options will provide three training sessions (each lasting 90 minutes) which will be led by professional coaches in local sports centres. Equipment and transport are included in the price.
Sundays are the arrival/departure days for this programme. If you are staying for another week, then you can spend this day relaxing at the campus with your friends or you can add an optional excursion. This will incur a small additional charge and examples of typical optional Sunday excursions include trips to the IMAX, Sealife Centre, indoor climbing or a visit to the Babelsberg film studios.
This programme, designed as it is for young students, does include a high level of supervision. You will be supervised at all times during your lessons, in your accommodation and whilst on activities/excursions. Depending on your age and subject to parental permission, you may be permitted some unsupervised free time during excursions (but only in pairs or small groups). You will need to be in bed by 22.00.
Airport transfers are included in the course price for students arriving on the Sunday before their course starts and departing on the Sunday after their course finishes.
If your airline requires that you travel as an ‘unaccompanied minor’, you will need to book our school’s unaccompanied minors’ service, which will incur an additional charge.
Please note that this programme does tend to fill up very quickly, so we do advise that you do not make any travel arrangements until you have received confirmation of your course from ourselves.
