Our summer school for teenagers is located in the very centre of Biarritz, a famous and luxurious world-class surfing destination in the French Basque country, on the Atlantic coast. Biarritz is a wonderful beachside location for young students who are looking for a French study holiday, packed with action and adventure, in addition to nightlife and relaxation. The town is surrounded by beautiful beaches, offering endless opportunities for surfing and other water sports. The surrounding countryside offers chances for walking, climbing and mountain biking, to name just a few options. Despite being a popular holiday destination, Biarritz has always managed to keep its identity and its own unique flair.
The summer course for teenagers in Biarritz, open each year in June, July and August, offers a programme of 20 general French lessons each week, in addition to a choice of either adventure activities or surf classes! Students must have some prior French knowledge and be aged between 14 and 17 years to attend this programme.
On the first Monday of your course, you will take an initial level test to determine the correct class for your language level and you will study French in groups of no more than 14 students per class. The tuition is adapted to fit the needs and requirements of students of this particular age group, with an aim to provide fun, interesting and inspiring lessons, using a variety of modern teaching materials and resources. The general French classes take place in the mornings, with 4 classes per day from 9am. Each class is 45 minutes in duration. The afternoons will be filled with either of the following options:
French course plus multi-activity programme
This is a unique course, only available in our option two school in Biarritz, giving young students the chance to combine their language course with a huge range of exciting sports and activities, in a programme that changes every day of the week!
You will compliment your French lessons with four sport initiation sessions each week in the afternoons! The activities change every day, meaning that you will have the chance to try a huge variety of different sports during your stay in Biarritz. Each afternoon activity is supervised by qualified instructors, or by the school staff and there are between 8 and 12 students in every group, depending on the type of sport. Example activities include: Sea-kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, surfing and rafting! The full programme changes regularly and will be available before the start of summer.
French course plus surf classes:
If you are coming to Biarritz for the surf, then you will be delighted to join our special French with surf classes, where 4 afternoon surf sessions are included each week in the programme, on the ¨Plage des Corsaires¨ in Anglet. There are a variety of all types of waves here, allowing all levels and proficiencies to take advantage of the classes. The sessions are led by fully qualified surf instructors and the level is adapted to suit the needs of each group. There is a maximum of just 8 students in the surf sessions. The exact timetable can vary, according to the weather conditions and all equipment is provided by the surf school.
Accommodation is provided in shared rooms with French host families in Biarritz. You will receive 3 meals per day, including a packed lunch during the week. The hosts are carefully selected by the school’s Accommodation Officer and they work closely with our school to provide all students with a comfortable and welcoming home, at a maximum distance of 30 minutes from the school by public transport. You will have the chance to get to know the local people and to practise your French every day during your stay.
The school organises social activities, in addition to the French with surf, or French with multi-activities programmes described above! There are 3 evening activities included in the programme every week, giving you more chances to meet with international friends, to relax, to practise your French skills and to enjoy a beachside holiday! There are football matches, beach volley games, treasure hunts, photo contests and city quizzes. There are also bowling trips and cinema visits and excursions to discover the surrounding Basque country. The programme includes a half-day excursion each Wednesday afternoon, as well as a full-day excursion every Saturday!
There is always a group leader or qualified professional instructor leading the sports activities and supervising the students. The teacher-to-student ratio for water sports is 1 to 8 and for all other activities or excursions there is a supervisor for every 12 students.
You can arrive into Biarritz Airport or train station and your host family will meet you on arrival and drop you off on your departure.
