Boston, the capital of the state of Massachusetts, is an attractive world-class city and perhaps the most international city in the USA, with a long history of captivating students, visitors and tourists from all corners of the world. Famous for Harvard University and MIT, in addition to many other leading education centres, Boston is an ideal place in which to improve your English! There are endless city sights and exciting things to do after class, as part of the school’s activities programme.
The school is located in a traditional but modern college campus, just a short distance from Fenway Park – the oldest and most famous ballpark in the US. The area is welcoming, friendly and safe and surrounded by beautiful outdoor green spaces and areas for relaxing. The school’s modern facilities include a spacious common area with TV and DVD, access to the college library, bookstore and use of the computers with free WiFi internet access. The meal plan is full-board during the week with half-board on Saturdays and breakfast only on Sundays, due to a full-day excursion. Students also have access to local gym facilities and to a student centre equipped with piano, football table and computers.
The summer programme in Boston runs each year between June, July and August and consists of 20 general English classes per week and a special calendar of various sports, cultural activities and visits in the afternoons.
In your English classes you will improve your overall level of English. The school’s native, highly qualified and experienced teachers use modern teaching methods and resources, placing a great deal of emphasis on communication skills, to help you to gain confidence in your everyday use of the language.
You will stay in shared rooms in the student residence, on a full-board basis, with half-board on Saturdays and breakfast only on Sundays. Bed linen and towels are provided in the residence and there are laundry facilities in the dormitories. Bathrooms are shared by between 4 and 6 students.
Afternoon activities take place each day from Monday to Friday and students have a wide range of possibilities from things such as city tours, the Freedom Trail, visits to museums and galleries and to Harvard Square. There are sports on the Boston Common, visits to Bunker Hill and trips to Newbury Street and Georges Island. Specialist afternoon programmes, with a focus either on sports activities or a university explorer programme (taking TOEFL or SAT preparation classes), are alternative options available, for students who would like to focus their time on these more specific interests.
There are optional evening activities available (usually at a small extra cost), which include parties, discos, bowling, film nights and baseball games, amongst other things. There is a full-day excursion every Sunday to places such as Newport and Rhode Island, New York City, Six Flags Amusement Park and there are also Whale Watching trips which are extremely popular with our students.
There are members of staff available 24 hours on campus, to support students during the class times and throughout the afternoon and evening activities programme.
Airport transfers on your arrival and departure are included in the course price.
