Bournemouth, on the south coast of England, is famous for over 10km of golden sandy beaches and clean seas. The city offers Young Students a wonderful seaside resort in which to study English and enjoy a holiday and the attractions of a coastal town at the same time. Bournemouth is renowned for being clean, safe and pretty. The town is surrounded by beautiful gardens and small enough to walk around. Famous landmarks include the Pier, the Central Gardens and the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
Our summer school building is just a 10 minute walk from the city centre and beach and the residence accommodation is also just a couple of minutes walk from the school building. All young students need to have an elementary level of English (1 or 2 years of English in school) in order to attend the programme and classes are organised according to language level on arrival.
The Young Students on our English programme can choose the intensity of the language course they would like to attend, with options of 15, 20 or 25 classes each week. The teaching approach is interactive using discussion, presentation, role play and group work to encourage students to communicate as much as possible, developing their skills and confidence. In the afternoons and evenings there is a cultural programme of activities each day.
You can choose to stay in a shared room in the student residence building, or with a carefully selected English host family, both on a full-board basis, where 3 meals are provided each day.
The host families are carefully selected by the school staff, and have been welcoming international students for many years. This is a great way to make friends, to meet the local people and to learn more about the English way of life, whilst having the chance to practise your English with your host family at the same time. Many hosts live close to the school, whereas others live around 30 minutes from the school on average by bus.
There are two residence buildings offering single bedrooms in the city centre, just a short distance from the school on foot. One of the residence buildings has en-suite rooms in shared apartments. This is the best option for students who wish to live together and to meet many other international students during their stay.
The programme of afternoon and evening activities will ensure that you are able to get the very most out of your summer course in this lovely seaside resort. The activities are part of the course programme and students will be able to choose between a variety of options. The programme includes such things as welcome parties, beach games and sports, guided tours of Bournemouth, workshops on topics in arts, crafts, health and fitness, film evenings and quizzes.
Every two weeks there are 2 half-day excursions and one full day excursion to places around Bournemouth, such as to Salisbury, Portsmouth, London, Brighton and Bath. All of these are included in the cost of the programme.
There is supervision in the school and during all of the afternoon and evening activities or excursions. There is also one supervisor living on-site in each residence. Bournemouth is a safe and compact town and students can leave the campus together in groups of three, providing that they have parental and supervisor permission in advance.
You can arrive into London, Southampton or Bournemouth Airport. Please note that airport transfers are not included in the cost of the programme, but can be requested on your arrival and/or departure, if you wish.
