London is an influential centre for learning and culture, an important global business and economic centre, the seat of government and politics, a world-famous tourist destination, a major international transport hub and a city filled with endless leisure, sports, shopping facilities and parks! Young Students will discover a diverse, vibrant and lively place in which to improve their English, have a holiday to remember and where they can make international, long-lasting friendships!
Our summer school for teenagers utilises one of the University of London’s colleges, housed in its own private and self-contained grounds, with exceptional facilities and beautiful gardens. The campus entrance is in Kensington Square, in Zone 1 of London, providing students with a safe, private space, right in the centre of the city! The beautiful grounds of Hyde Park and the fantastic museums of South Kensington are within walking distance of the school. The students will live on campus, with separate male and female floors. There are one or two staff members also living on each floor, providing 24-hour support and attention.
The summer course consists of 15 general English lessons every week, in groups separated according to language level. The classes are fun, enjoyable and diverse, encouraging the students to express themselves and communicate as much as possible. The lessons involve learning vocabulary, project work, group work and other language skills, with a focus on helping all students to gain in confidence and to use their English language skills in all kinds of situations. Some prior knowledge of English is necessary, so students will need to have studied English for one or two years in school, in order to attend the summer course. There can be exceptions for complete beginners on occasion as well, so please let us know as far in advance as possible and we will do our best to accommodate beginner students of English! The classes take place from 9am until 1pm each day, with an additional culture class each day, on a choice of different topics. There is an exciting and packed programme of activities, sports, visits and excursions in the afternoons and evenings.
Students are housed in single bedrooms in the on-site student residence building. Each room has its own washbasin and free internet access is also available in every room. There are 11 rooms on each floor of the residence, with separate floors for girls and boys. There are shared bathroom facilities on every floor, as well as kitchens with lockable cupboards and fridges, for students to keep food, drinks and snacks. Bed linen and towels are provided and changed on a weekly basis and there are laundry facilities, where students are helped to do their washing, for a small extra fee. All of the meals are provided each day in the school canteen, where there is a choice of meals, including a vegetarian option, as well as possibilities to cater for any special dietary needs. There is a packed lunch on excursion days and students can also buy snacks and drinks from the on-site canteen, or from the vending machines, if they wish.
Students will receive five extra culture classes or workshops each week, on a choice of options, which should be decided on in advance of their programme, namely: Fashion & Style, Sports or Discovering London. These classes are linked to the activities programme and provide a fantastic opportunity to broaden your knowledge and to find out about specific areas of English life and culture, in a dynamic and interesting way. In addition to the choice areas, students will leave the campus most afternoons for a wide variety of visits, sightseeing trips and excursions. There are guided walks (Discover London option), personal training (Sports option) and fashion projects (Fashion & Style option), there are museum visits, quiz nights, riverboat trips, student discos, fashion shows, team video challenges, games in the park, and much, much more! The summer programme in London is a chance for you to have an unforgettable and thoroughly enjoyable holiday, whilst improving your English in the fabulous, exciting and breathtaking capital city of England!
The programme provides individual attention to every student studying with us and the school staff ensure the safety and wellbeing of each student throughout their stay. There are members of staff available full time to support and to supervise the students. The campus grounds are controlled by 24-hour security staff and students are not permitted to leave the campus without written permission from their parents in advance, or unless they are accompanied by a member of the school staff.
An airport transfer service is not included in the cost of the programme, but needs to be organised on arrival and/or departure for an additional fee for any student who is travelling alone. We recommend you to try to arrive into Heathrow airport or to St Pancras Eurostar for the most economical transfer options.
