This programme is ideal if you are aged 16-18 years and want to improve your Spanish over the summer in one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in Spain. Salamanca is a city that attracts many students, both international and Spanish. A university city, Salamanca is geared up for students and it is this, and the fact that the Spanish spoken here is seen as ‘pure’, that attracts learners of Spanish. The large number of university students means that despite its history, Salamanca does still feel youthful and so it is perfect for students of this age group.
Plaza Mayor, the city’s main square, is just 5 minutes’ walk from our Spanish language school. Although a small school, the facilities are excellent and include 8 classrooms, as well as a library/multi-media room. There is also air-conditioning throughout.
This course provides total immersion in the Spanish language and so your lessons will be in Spanish from the outset. Our colleagues will make sure that you are placed in the correct group for your level by giving you a short level test on arrival. The overall emphasis will be on the everyday, practical usage of the language which does mean that there will be lots of speaking and listening, although you will, of course, cover all aspects of the language so that you improve your overall level of Spanish. Homework is given every day, to reinforce that which is covered in class.
Importantly, your teachers will all be native Spanish speakers and will be fully qualified to teach Spanish as a foreign language. Equally important is the fact that your teachers will also be experienced in teaching students of your age group, so will know how to keep you engaged and get the best results possible during your course. Groups are kept small, with a maximum of 12 students per class. Your lessons will normally take place in the afternoons, after a morning of activities.
This programme offers a choice of host family or student residence accommodation. Both options are offered on a full board basis and in twin rooms, so you will be placed with another student of the same gender and from the same programme, meaning that you will be very similar in age. You will be able to travel to and from the school with your roommate, although the journey will not be a complicated one, as most accommodation is located within 20 minutes’ walk of the school.
This programme includes daily activities, which will not only keep you entertained, but will also give you more opportunities to practice speaking Spanish! The exact activities programme offered does change from week to week and generally includes visits to museums, swimming and excursions to local places of interest.
You will also have plenty of free time, usually in the evenings, to explore the city or meet with friends.
This particular Spanish programme is an excellent option for young adults, as it provides more supervision than an adult course and more freedom than a course for young students. Host families and school staff will keep an eye on students and will make sure they are behaving in an appropriate manner (i.e. not consuming alcohol or drugs etc.) but students are generally welcome to do as they choose in their free time.
If you are able to arrive into Madrid Barajas Airport before 16.00 on the Sunday before your course starts and depart from the same airport after 12.00 on the Saturday after your course finishes, then you would be welcome to take advantage of the school’s free transfer service. Please note that our courses for young students do generally fill up very quickly, so we would advise that you do not make any travel arrangements until you have received confirmation of your course from ourselves (this usually takes 1-2 working days).
