The capital of Andalusia, Seville is a wonderful setting for a Spanish young students’ course. Birthplace of Flamenco, Seville is one of the cultural capitals of Spain and it is this, combined with the city’s stunning historic architecture (the city is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites), that make this such an exciting place to learn Spanish.
Seville was an important city during the period of Moorish rule and the influence of this period of the city’s history can be seen throughout. The incredible Alcazar is a magnificent royal palace built in the Mudéjar style and is not to be missed on your visit to Seville. Equally as impressive and iconic is the Giralda tower, which was originally an Islamic minaret, before being converted to a bell-tower for the Catholic cathedral.
Our Spanish school in Seville is very centrally located at about 10 minutes’ walk from Alcazar and approximately 20 minutes’ walk from Plaza de Espana. The facilities at the school are excellent and include 30 fully-equipped classrooms (all air-conditioned), a library and language lab, wireless Internet access throughout and several communal areas, including a traditional Andalusian central patio and a roof-top terrace complete with plunge pool and sun loungers.
Each week, you will have 20 Spanish lessons which will focus on improving your general level of Spanish. You will have lots of speaking and listening practice as there is an emphasis on the everyday practical usage of the language, although you will still, of course, cover all aspects, including reading, writing and grammar. Your teachers will not only be native Spanish speakers who are fully qualified to teach Spanish as a foreign language, but will also be very experienced in teaching students of your age, as the school has been offering this programme for almost 30 years.
You will be encouraged to speak Spanish at all times and, indeed, the teaching will be in Spanish from the outset. This method will not only improve your listening and speaking skills, but will also help you to understand the practical application of the language. As the afternoon activities will also be conducted in Spanish, your learning will continue outside of the classroom.
Accommodation is provided with a carefully selected host family who will live within walking distance of the school. You will share your room with another student from the programme (of the same gender as you). Your hosts will provide you with all of your meals, so do let us know if you have any allergies or special dietary requirements.
Our colleagues at the school visit the host families they work with before they start to work with them and also continue to visit regularly during the time that they are working with them. This means that they can ensure the accommodation continues to be safe, suitable and comfortable for young students, such as yourself. Part of the experience of staying with a host family is the opportunities it offers for you to practice speaking Spanish with native speakers and so your hosts will only speak to you in Spanish.
Your accommodation will start on the Sunday before the course starts and will end on the Saturday after the course finishes.
Activities are offered every afternoon, as well as in the evenings twice per week. A full-day excursion to places of interest nearby, such as adventure parks, is usually arranged once a week (normally on Saturdays). Sundays are usually a free day, which most students spend with their host families.
Examples of typical activities arranged include guided tours of various areas of the city, kayaking, karaoke,
Supervision is provided during lessons, whilst on activities and in your accommodation. You will need to make your own way to school each day, although your hosts will ensure you know the best way and normally you will travel with your roommate. You will also be allowed some free time, but please note that you will be expected to respect the curfew of 23.30 on weekdays (Sunday to Thursday) or 00.30 at weekends (Friday and Saturday). No exceptions can be made and your host family will inform the school if you break your curfew.
An airport transfer can be arranged for an additional charge from Seville Airport.
