Vienna is a spectacular city and the capital of Austria. A city famous for its musical heritage, glamorous balls and café culture, Vienna exudes an elegance and sophistication that makes it an outstanding choice for your German summer course in Austria. Vienna is also a city which boasts some spectacular, imposing palaces, such as Schönbrunn and Hofburg Palaces, hinting at its imperial past as the capital city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
This programme takes place in the premises of a prestigious private school in the city centre, within easy reach of most of Vienna’s main attractions. The school offers excellent facilities for students including a range of sports facilities (football pitch, volleyball and tennis courts etc.). Your accommodation will also be on-site and you will take all your meals in the school cafeteria.
Choose between 20 or 30 lessons per week, all of which will be conducted in German and will focus on improving your overall level of the language. Your level will be assessed on arrival at the school, after which you will be placed in a suitable group with students of a similar level. The exact content of the course will depend on the level, but there will be a general emphasis on the everyday, practical usage of the language. This means that there will be lots of speaking and listening, although, naturally, you will still cover all aspects of the language in order to improve your overall level.
Your teachers will not only be fully-qualified, native German-speakers, they will also be experienced in teaching German as a foreign language to teenagers and, as such, will understand how to make your lessons interesting for you. A small amount of homework will be given, usually to reinforce that which has been covered in lessons or to prepare for the following day.
During your course you will be accommodated in the school’s on-site residence. You will share a room with up to 5 other students. Bathroom facilities are shared and boys and girls are accommodated in separate wings. Members of staff also live on site and so will be available to provide support at any time.
All of your meals will be served in the on-site cafeteria. The school are usually able to cater to special dietary requirements as long as this information is provided at the time of booking. Your accommodation will be available to you from the Sunday before your course starts until the Saturday after your course finishes.
This programme offers a fantastic range of activities, examples of which include sports (volleyball, football, swimming and table tennis), creative activities (craft work, music lessons, waltzing lessons, theatre workshops, newspaper workshops), treasure hunts, barbecues and discos to name but a few! These activities are offered on a daily basis, both in the afternoons and evenings, so you will certainly be kept busy during your time in Vienna. The activities will be conducted in German, so as well as being fun, they should also be of linguistic benefit.
Excursions are also regularly arranged (usually one half-day and one full-day excursion per week) to places such as Salzburg, or Rosenburg Palace.
Full supervision is provided on this programme. Students are only permitted to leave the campus unaccompanied with parental permission and must sign out and in at the teacher’s room. If your parents do wish to give you going out permission, they can choose to set a curfew of 18.00, 21.00 or 22.00 (the latter is only available for students over 15 years). If you are aged 12-14 years old, lights out will be at 22.00, and if you are aged 15-17 years, lights out will be at 23.00.
Airport transfers are not included in the course price but can be arranged for an additional charge.
