The capital city of Austria, Vienna is one of the most sophisticated cities in Europe and a spectacular setting for your German summer course. Magnificent architecture has led to the city centre being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and this is certainly a city that offers history and tradition around every corner. Once the imperial seat of the Habsburg dynasty, Vienna became an important centre for music, and was home at one time to a wealth of famous musical maestros including Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Liszt.
This programme takes place next to our main school in Vienna (for adults, although students attending this programme can also use the facilities at the main school) and the campus offers a range of sports facilities, as well as a lovely park. In the city’s embassy district, the school is just 15 minutes’ walk from the beautiful Belvedere Palace.
This programme is ideal for young adults aged 16-19 years who like the idea of a ‘package’ course that combines lessons with activities and accommodation, but who prefer to study exclusively with students of their age. You can choose between the ‘Intensive’ course of 20 group lessons per week, or the ‘Super-Intensive’ course of 30 group lessons per week. The choice between these two courses really is down to personal preference as both will improve your overall level of German. Most students choose the ‘Intensive’ course as it offers a nice balance between lessons and activities, but if you really do need to make as much progress as possible during the time available, the ‘Super-Intensive’ course is a great choice.
Lessons are conducted in German from the outset, so as to provide total immersion and your teachers will be native German speakers. They will be fully-qualified to teach German as a foreign language and will be experienced at teaching students of your age.
You will stay in student residence accommodation located approximately 15-25 minutes from the school and city centre. You will share a room with another student if the same gender and your accommodation will run from the Sunday before your course starts until the Saturday after your course finishes. Breakfast and evening meals will be provided in the on-site restaurant and you will also have access to a kitchen.
Activities will be offered on a daily basis during this programme. These activities are optional, but it is recommended that you take part as they really are the best way to get to know your fellow students, as well as discover more about Vienna. In addition, the activities will be conducted in German, to give you extra speaking and listening practice. As well as cultural activities (such as culture quizzes, waltzing lessons and guided city walks), a number of sports activities are offered. In the evenings the school regularly organise night tours of the city, discos and barbecues. These activities are included in the course price.
You will have some free time, although the school do offer additional optional activities, such as trips to Salzburg, media workshops etc. These optional activities may incur a small additional charge payable directly to the school and will also require a minimum number of participants.
Students taking this course are generally treated as adults and are expected to behave as such. There is no strict supervision like with our language programmes for younger students, although members of staff will be on hand to provide any support required. Please note that members of staff do not live in the residence with students.
Airport transfers can be arranged but are not included in the course price.
